Silicon as a dietary supplement
The unexplored all-rounder
In medical research, silicon has so far led a shadowy existence. No one can really answer the question of why. In any case, it cannot be due to the lack of presence of the semi-metal: as a trace element, silicon is found in almost every cell in the human body. In the connective tissue of the skin as well as in bones and cartilage or in hair and nails. Health care research has therefore devoted particular attention to the versatile mineral: primarily to find out which functions silicon takes on in maintaining the strength and elasticity of individual cells. In this article you can read what colloidal silicon is and why the mineral is a real team player for other trace elements.
Unfortunately, according to the law, we are not allowed to make any statements about the effects of silicon.

What is this exactly?
Silicon is a mineral that always occurs in nature in a bound form, i.e. it has either oxygen and/or hydrogen atoms with it. It is a component of many types of rock, such as quartz or various rock crystals. The glittering, tiny particles in the sand by the sea are also silicon crystals. In short: In the ranking of the most common elements on the earth's surface, it is in second place - just behind oxygen.
Plants absorb the mineral from the soil. Many upright-growing plants, especially cereals and tall grasses, owe the stable elasticity of their stalks to the semi-metal.

Silicon, silicic acid, silica - what's the difference?
As mentioned, the metalloid has a strong tendency to bond: the frequently encountered silicon dioxide has formed a close friendship with two oxygen atoms and forms an extremely hard solid with them, which only melts at very high temperatures. Silicon dioxide is mainly used in the manufacture of porcelain and glass. Incidentally, the term “silicon” goes back to the Latin term “silex”, which means “pebble”. The acid of silicon dioxide is therefore called silicic acid - it contains around one third silicon. The natural silica, in turn, consists of the tiny shells of dead, so-called diatoms. In Germany it occurs mainly in the Lüneburg Heath and in Bavaria. Silica consists of around 80 percent silicic acid.
Which human cells contain silicon?
In the human body there is only a total of 1.4 grams of this essential substance - but these are so well distributed that almost every cell has received some of it. Especially connective tissue, skin and bones are considered “lavishly”. Some studies suggest that it has a significant impact on cartilage elasticity and bone density. It is also suspected that the mechanism by which silica gives the blades of grass both stability and flexibility also affects human skin, hair and nails. On the other hand, it has been a fact since the late 90s that the silicon content of the body decreases with increasing age – especially in the skin and in the blood vessels.
The human organism cannot produce the trace element itself. Natural sources are grain, fruit and vegetables, water - and the barley malt from (non-alcoholic) beer. Incidentally, there is no official recommendation for daily use. Estimates assume 3-4 mg per day – or 50 micrograms per kilogram of body weight.
What is colloidal silicon?
When you think about boosting your silicon balance with a dietary supplement, you will probably come across the term “colloidal silicon”. You can regard it as a seal of quality: The corresponding product contains the trace element in a so-called "colloidal" solution: In a special manufacturing process, the smallest, natural silicon particles are mixed with water in such a way that they then defy gravity and can no longer sink. This has the advantage that they form a relatively large surface - and the body can absorb them very well. The bioavailability is disproportionately large.
In our shop you will only find colloidal silicon that comes from the underground water sources of the volcanic island of Iceland. We do not add synthetic chemicals or use acids, so that the products on offer have a pH value of more than 8.5 in the basic range.
You get it pure as Silicon Pure or supplemented with minerals and vitamins.
With zinc and copper: Why hair, skin and nails benefit
As mentioned above, the exact functions that silicon performs in the body are still largely unexplored. The necessary scientific study results for generally valid, binding statements are missing. What is known, however, is the very pronounced ability of silicon to bind water. Applied externally - or taken internally - colloidal silicon can therefore have positive effects on the skin's moisture supply. Individual studies also suggest that the mineral strengthens certain protein compounds that are mainly found in the hair. Zinc and copper, on the other hand, demonstrably support the maintenance of healthy connective tissue and protect the cells from oxidative stress. Zinc also fuels the energy metabolism and in this way increases the supply of nutrients to skin and hair root cells. You get all this with our Silicon Renew - Hair, Skin & Nails.
A small selection of the effects of copper and zinc:
- Copper contributes to normal hair pigmentation and skin pigmentation.
- Copper contributes to the maintenance of normal connective tissue.

With magnesium: wellness for muscles and nerves
Especially in long-lasting stressful situations that go beyond a normal, healthy level, the stimulus transmission of the nerves often gets out of sync. The inundation with arousal impulses then leads to the feeling of being “live” internally. Silicon Recover – Muscles & Nerves Magnesium can have a dampening and calming effect in these cases. Magnesium counteracts the excessive release of adrenaline and cortisol. Magnesium also promotes normal muscle (relaxation) tension. Conversely, magnesium in the mitochondria, which are the power plants of the cells, so to speak, is significantly involved in the production of energy. A deficiency promotes exhaustion and signs of fatigue. Colloidal silicon with magnesium prevents this.
A small selection of the effects of magnesium:
- Magnesium helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.
- Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.
- Magnesium contributes to normal energy metabolism.
- Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function.
- Magnesium contributes to normal mental function.
With iron and vitamin D3: Recipe for vigor and joie de vivre
Iron is one of the best-researched, essential trace elements. Which is not surprising since it plays a fundamental role in the human body. Colloidal silicon with iron supports "cellular respiration" throughout the body: the mineral helps bind oxygen to the blood pigment hemoglobin - and then distributes it to every single cell. This ensures that skin and hair, muscles and mucous membranes are always optimally cared for - and that body and mind feel good. Our Silicon Refocus - Energy & Spirit with iron also contains vitamin D3, which has an essential function in the absorption of calcium from the digestive tract - and thus promotes hardening of the bones. With its two team partners, it also takes on regulatory tasks in the immune system with iron and vitamin D3.
A small selection of the effects of iron and vitamin D3:
- Iron contributes to normal cognitive function.
- Iron contributes to normal energy metabolism.
- Iron contributes to normal oxygen transport in the body.

- Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.
- Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function.
- Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
- Vitamin D contributes to a normal calcium level in the blood.
- Vitamin D contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system in children.
With manganese: A blessing for bones and joints
Manganese is a bit like yeast and dough: The essential trace element is an indispensable part of various enzymes that could not function without this "ingredient". These enzymes, in turn, are involved in carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. This product with manganese helps, among other things, in the production of the enzyme superoxide dismutase, which protects cells from aggressive free radicals. Manganese-dependent enzymes also control the formation of connective tissue and are involved in keeping bones and joints healthy. Silicon Repair – Joints & Bones with manganese supports these elementary tasks.
A small selection of the effects of manganese:
- Manganese contributes to normal energy metabolism.
- Manganese contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.
- Manganese contributes to normal connective tissue formation.
- Manganese helps protect cells from oxidative stress.
