The causes of magnesium deficiency
Modern man is mostly undersupplied with magnesium. A magnesium deficit occurs when the body is supplied with less of this mineral than it needs. And this phenomenon is widespread in today's world. In summary, a magnesium deficiency can have these causes:
Sometimes we find ourselves in a life situation that requires a larger amount of magnesium. This could be pregnancy or stress. And if we don't meet this increased need, then we are plagued by magnesium deficiency and its effects. However, an adequate intake of magnesium plays an important role for everyone. Athletes expel more minerals through heavy sweating, so that these can be balanced by taking additional magnesium products. In this case, taking magnesium chloride and applying magnesium oil can prevent deficiency symptoms. Regular and excessive alcohol consumption also leads to a magnesium deficiency because alcohol has a diuretic effect. A large part of the absorbed minerals is expelled again with the urine. We also lose a lot of magnesium with diarrhea and vomiting, since the minerals are flushed out again with the loss of water.
In addition to the above reasons, magnesium deficiency also has other causes. One of them is the excessive consumption of dairy products and industrially processed (finished) products. Dairy products have always been described as the best sources of calcium, but calcium only has a positive effect on our organism in combination with magnesium. And unfortunately, too much of it blocks the effect of magnesium, resulting in an undersupply of magnesium in the body. For this reason, calcium and magnesium should ideally be present in the body in a ratio of 2:1. Milk, cheese, quark - the refrigerated shelves in supermarkets are full of dairy products. And too much of it does more harm than good to your health. Since milk and its products are not recommended in natural medicine as a healthy and recommended food or source of calcium, it is better to get your calcium needs from other foods, such as nuts and green vegetables. Magnesium deficiency is also favored by the consumption of industrially processed foods. For example, white flour products contain far less magnesium than whole grain products. And sugar beets lose all of their magnesium content during the production of table sugar. Eating a healthy and balanced diet that minimizes processed products and fast food is the best way to prevent magnesium deficiency and its effects on the body.
And that's not all: Industrially processed finished products, sugar and fast food lead to chronic over-acidification of the body in the long term. Since magnesium and calcium are the best basic minerals, they are now needed to neutralize excess acid. The magnesium, which is already present in small amounts in the body, is used to neutralize acids and is no longer available for other processes. A diet is also associated with an undersupply of magnesium because the diet is not balanced enough to provide the body with all the important nutrients. You can also support your acid-base balance with alkaline baths and/or magnesium flake baths.
In addition, there is another reason for the magnesium deficiency, which is due to the poor conditions in agriculture. Because the so-called artificial fertilizers consist mainly of nitrates, phosphates, calcium and potash salts. This combination only favors a positive appearance of vegetables and fruit, but not their mineral content. Magnesium plays a secondary role here, which is why it is rarely found in artificial fertilizers. In addition, the high proportion of calcium and potassium prevents the plants from absorbing the magnesium from the soil.
